Service Area This station at the intersection of 26 Street S.W. and Bow Trail will primarily serve the residents of Shagannapi, Killarney, and Upper Scarboro. Design Shaganappi Point Station is built into the median of Bow Trail. Expanded curbs on the west side of 26 Street S.W. will help pedestrians to safely cross eastbound or westbound Bow Trail to reach the station. Shaganappi Point Station features a curvilinear design with glass panelling running the full length of the platform for transparency. Louvers installed on the south side provide sun shading. Other design elements of the station include a steel structure frame, copper roof, and laminated douglas fir-larch beams. A ramp will be used to access the station, rather than steps. Transit users will enter the station from the east side. Surrounding Area The area around the station will feature expanded intersection curbs, a 2.5-metre-wide multi-use pathway for pedestrians and cyclists, a bus terminal, bicycle lockers and racks, and a new pedestrian bridge at 24 Street S.W. (links to a preliminary rendering). The station will be walk-on, meaning it will not include a Park and Ride facility. Calgary Transit patrons will arrive at the community station by Calgary Transit buses, walking, cycling or by private vehicles. Shaganappi Station will facilitate quicker and more direct access to local attractions including Shaganappi Point Golf Course, Shaganappi Park, and the commercial corridor along 17 Avenue S.W. Once the LRT line is in service, golfers and cross country skiers will be able to access the course from downtown in just over five minutes. Calgary Transit permits skis on its trains and buses, as long as they are kept in an upright position. |
