Sarcee Trail Interchange

Sarcee Trail-17 Avenue S.W. interchange

Open: Sarcee Trail/17 Avenue S.W. interchange

The Sarcee Trail/17 Avenue S.W. interchange opened in October 2011. Crews will conitnue to work on and open the permanent on and off ramps in 2012. Once the project is complete, the project will see landscaping implemented in 2012 and 2013.

As part of The City's Transportation Infrastructure Investment Plan, this interchange was selected as necessary to accommodate higher traffic flows along Sarcee Trail. The interchange will provide free-flow traffic on northbound and southbound Sarcee Trail while improving traffic flow on eastbound and westbound 17 Avenue S.W.

Rather than organize two separate projects and interrupt traffic for twice as long, it was realized money could be saved and traffic interruption could be avoided by building the LRT bridge and the interchange at the same time.

The Sarcee Trail/17th Ave. S.W. Interchange is part of the 2009-2018 Transportation Infrastructure Investment Plan (TIIP) (PDF - 0.6 MB). This plan defines the priority and timing of infrastructure projects and programs for the City's Transportation Department.
