 | Planning of the West LRT benefitted from an extensive public engagement process involving over 100 community meetings, a dedicated Community Advocate, and citizen advisory committees. On June 9, 2008, Council directed Administration to develop a citizen engagement plan to ensure West LRT stations were designed in collaboration with affected communites. On Sept. 18, 2008, Council approved the Public Engagement Plan (PDF - 0.5 MB), which was the basis of a 12 month public engagement process tailored to maximize certainty for the station design and other public elements within the constraints of the project schedule and the design-build delivery mode. Some highlights on the Public Engagement Plan: - Based on The City's engage! Policy and Framework (PDF - 0.1 MB)
- Kicked off the Plan's development with a Community Summit (PDF - 0.25 MB) attended by 60 citizens
- Collaborated with nine citizens on the Plan's development
- Established five Community Advisory Committees for the six LRT Stations (Sirocco and 69 Street Stations were represented by one committee)
- Chose 70 citizens from 12 communities for the committees through an application process
- Discussed project items such as station design, urban design, traffic, parking and noise attenuation
- Interviewed and hired, in collaboration with citizens, a Community Advocate who conveyed stakeholder issues and concerns to Administration and acted as a technical resource to the community through the Plan's implementation
- Hosted more than 150 meetings with community members between 2008 and 2012.
